Equine Media Awards Honors 2020

A highlight of every year is attending the American Horse Publications annual conference, which culminates in a fancy Equine Media Awards dinner and ceremony. Of course, this year’s conference had to be canceled due to the virus, so the awards went virtual this year.

Saturday night, I sat watching my screen, heart racing, excited to find out how my finalist entries would place and celebrating my friends and colleagues along the way!

I won first place in the Horse and Human Bond photography category with this photo of Jen Havice and her big boy, Ben, which was in a 2019 winter issue of Horse Illustrated.

Horse Illustrated submitted the Mustang Training series I wrote and photographed in 2019, which featured my friend Annie MacDermaid. It came in 2nd out of 22 entries! FOR WRITING! I never think of myself as a writer, but I think that needs to change.  You can read the articles online: Out of the Wild Part 1: Mustang Matchmaker | Out of the Wild Part 2: Think Like a Mustang Trainer

Finally, my photo of Zeph Schulz received an Honorable Mention in the Editorial Photograph category. This photo appeared in Chrome magazine in an article Allison Rehnborg wrote about my career as an equine photographer. Read the full article here

A huge congratulations and virtual hug to all my friends and colleagues who received honors Saturday night. I wish we could have experienced it all in person, but now we already have something to look forward to next year!
