As I shared in my previous post, I was an instructor at The Equine Photography Retreat in Wellington, FL in February and I lead two styled photoshoots.
When they originally gave me options for the types of shoots I wanted to lead and I saw “Beach” on the list, I said, “SIGN ME UP!” While Minnesota is the land of 10,000 Lakes, there’s nothing like photographing horses with the ocean as a backdrop.
Our model was Laura Ashley of Laura Ashley Dressage. She is a highly accomplished Dressage rider and was a fantastic model because of her high level of skill, and her fearlessness! She brought along her amazing black half Arabian mare, Shana, who was tethered with a thin rope halter which was removed in editing.
I found myself a little girl again, pretending I was on that beach with “The Black” from the movie “The Black Stallion.” I remember standing there, warm breeze blowing in my hair, wishing the sun would just slow down and stay up another hour longer.
After this amazing experience, COVID-19 hit, and I didn’t even take my camera out of the bag for over a month. When I did, a little sand fell off my lens and I smiled.
Rumor has it, The Equine Photograph Retreat 2021 is in the works and I’m looking forward to being part of another fun event!
