Carrie and her horse Powder

I’ve been itching to share this session. I try to blog in chronological order, but I found it very difficult to wait on this one. So why am I so excited? Well, as a photographer, it has taken a long time to develop my technical skills and my ability to see light, location and work with people to pull it all together. I feel like I’m pretty much where I want to be with those things (but still always learning and tweaking), but what I am finally seeing come together is my VISION. I see photos in this session that are so completely who I am as a photographer and the vision I have inside for my equine/human portraiture. I believe I still have a long road ahead of me in this, and I realize that not every session will give me the opportunity to express my vision, but I’m happy to see it in these photos.

Carrie is a sweet girl who loves her dapple grey arabian mare, Powder. We did this session on her family’s farm and really, we couldn’t have had a nice day or nicer setting.

Shelley, your photos are INSTANTLY recognizable as ‘yours’.

I do have a technical question….I hope it’s okay to ask it here. What focal length was the barn-soybean field-horse/rider to the far right and both looking left…shot at?

Any chance for an early spring….winter in FLA,GA or SC….workshop?

Shelley, Your pics/clicks have been of great inspiration; they give me great ideas for my shoots. I was wondering if you use a full frame camera; I like the picture frames and the long trees in most of your portfolio clicks.
How do you choose your Sets? Any particular thought around it?
    You’re an amazing photographer =)

    Thank you Dennis!

Aaron – Thank you for your kind words! I am using a full frame camera – my full gear list is located here: http://www.shelleypaulson.com/?page_id=3735. By sets do you mean locations?
