It’s surprising to me that this photo isn’t blurry. I was SO EXCITED taking it that I was jumping up and down and shaking!
This photo was taken in the context of a mentoring session. A photographer from the Duluth, MN area traveled to where I live for one-on-one instruction and a hands-on photo session. The whole day was sunny and beautiful, and it looked like things would still be nice by the time we would be shooting. We were wrong!
We got to Katrina’s grandparent’s farm and did our best to take photos in heavy cloud cover while dodging big, fat raindrops. There was a line of clouds just skirting the area, that just wouldn’t clear! At one point, I saw this hillside and said, “would it be awesome if the sun came out right at sunset and made the sky all dark blue behind it?” I got my wish, and more! Not only did I get my dark sky, but I got a rainbow. The sweet girl I was mentoring not only got the opportunity to take photos in this breathtaking moment, but she got to see me get about as excited as I ever get. I came a bit unglued. It was fun. 🙂
As I’ve reflected on this session, I’ve thought about the fact that if this was a client, I would have rescheduled, and I would have never had the opportunity to take a photo like this. I am grateful that we forged through and were rewarded for our patience!
Katrina has a sweet boy and wondered if we could take a few photos of him. I was happy to oblige.
Katrina told me later that she gasped when she saw the one on the right. She’s had a lot of fun sharing it with friends and family.
