ABOUT SHELLEY

If you woke me tomorrow and told me I couldn't be a photographer anymore, it would be like telling me I was going to be blind for the rest of my life. Photography has given me eyes to see and feel the beauty of the world and the people around me. My passion is to capture the true beauty and the feeling of real life in the photographs I create.

I have been photographing horses professionally since 2004.

HORSE CRAZY

One of my favorite quotes is "All horses deserve, at least once in their lives, to be loved by a little girl." As a little girl, I spent many summers on horseback, falling in love over and over with these beautiful creatures. As soon as I was grown-up enough to buy my own horse, I bought Maggie Sue, who is still the equine love of my life. I have done a little showing and even have a few blue ribbons. Now we mostly enjoy going on trails in local parks with friends.

MY LOVES

My husband, Tracy. I am blessed to be married to a great man. He is my business partner, personal comedian, and best friend.

My dog, Toby. Our adorable miniature schnauzer is my constant companion. I'm trying to raise him right, but he's a bit spoiled.

My horse, Maggie Sue. I bought her when she was two and she's now 19. She's sweet, gentle, has a carrot addiction, and holds a dear place in my heart.

My Jesus. He's the most kind, captivating person I know.

RANDOM FACTS

• I'm an animal lover. I spent many summers on my uncle's farm taming kittens and helping little piggies come into this world.
• I have my degree from the University of MN in vocal performance (singing) and was studying to be an opera singer.
• I love bags. Not purses...bags.
• I have Grapheme–color synesthesia. I define everything in terms of color. I think it contributes to my photography in some way.
• I like to dip Cheetos in chocolate pudding.
• I'm good at making people feel at ease, even complete strangers.
• I love presents and surprises.
• I'm a recovering perfectionist.
• I love the smell of my horse's nose.
• I make really good french-pressed coffee. Come on over, I'd love to make you some. :)

AVAILABILITY AND TRAVEL

Most of my work takes place in Minnesota and several times a year in Kansas City. I also really enjoy travel and am available for travel both inside and outside the US. Please contact me for rates and information.
